Paul Ishiguchi comes from Derby, West Kimberley in Western Australia. Paul is a Registered Nurse who has worked in the fields of Child Health and Emergency Care. He has been exposed to various facets of Aboriginal health and well being. Throughout his career many opportunities have arisen, and by listening to his inner self, he has been able to go in many varied directions.
Some of the roles that Paul has undertaken include:
- Remote clinical nursing in both Western Australia and Queensland;
- Managing the Aboriginal Health Worker Education Program at the Aboriginal Medical Service in Redfern;
- Coordinating the Western Australian Aboriginal Heart Health Strategy and the Western Australia Aboriginal Child Health Survey.
- Lecturer in Aboriginal health at the University of Sydney
Paul thrives on personable capability, and his ability to nurture others before him is a delight. Throughout his journey Paul has built an effective network of people who provide unparalleled support, not just to the current project, but to his own skill base, which then translates into helping others achieve their best.
Paul’s journey has included experiences in community settings in metropolitan, rural, remote and traditional parts of Australia. These experiences have had a profound effect on Paul, which has translated into the stories and plays that he has written. In essence, he is an achiever whose journey has always been for the benefit of Aboriginal children and young people, families and communities.
Paul recognised early on that the bright lights of the City were not a conducive environment that overwhelmingly nurtures his creativity. Immersing himself in nature and creating a comfortable space that enables him to embrace the beach and the bush is proving to be the perfect platform for Paul. He has always been attracted to rugged landscapes, illustrating a natured spirit. Paul is based in Lismore, NSW. |
